Aral pulse: Europe's first charging corridor for electric trucks opened

At eight 300 kW charging stations provided by the supplier between Schwegenheim (South Palatinate) and Dortmund, electric trucks can draw green electricity for a range of up to 200 km in 45 minutes.

With Europe's first charging corridor for medium and heavy-duty transport, Aral is investing in the ramp-up of electromobility in logistics traffic. Through the e-brand Aral pulse, the heavily trafficked 600 km logistic route of the Rhine-Alps Corridor is to be electrified, connecting the major regions of Rhine-Neckar and Rhine-Main with the metropolitan region of Rhine-Ruhr. Currently, the charging corridor comprises six well-lit and secure 300-kW charging stations that are adapted to the dimensions of trucks. These are located at Aral truck stops in Schwegenheim, Bensheim, Rüsselsheim, Rheinböllen, Düsseldorf, and Dortmund. In the coming months, an additional charging station in Bad Honnef on the A3 and one in Cologne will complete the charging corridor. At Aral pulse, more than 20 trucks per day and charging station can obtain green electricity for a range of up to 200 km during the legally mandated 45-minute driver break. Passenger cars can also use these charging stations.

The discussion around e-mobility is currently very focused on the passenger car sector. But medium and heavy-duty transport are also at a critical turning point. This is particularly evident from the announcements made by manufacturers. Our strategy is designed to meet this demand with a corresponding supply. The first European charging corridor is an important milestone in this direction, because it enables the charging of e-trucks, which currently usually have to return to their home depot to charge.
