Urban parking garages are to be equipped with HPC chargers, with driver lounges at larger stations. The first two locations in Berlin and Bremen are expected to open in 2023.

The petroleum company Aral, through its charging network brand Aral pulse, and the APCOA Parking Group have announced the construction of over 30 fast-charging stations in parking garages over the next three years. The goal is to expand the charging network in city centers and further accelerate the infrastructure for urban e-mobility. In addition to parking garages in Germany, facilities in Austria, Belgium, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Poland, and the United Kingdom are also to be part of a contract signed by Aral's parent company bp and APCOA as part of their joint pan-European strategy.

In this course, a total of more than 100 fast-charging stations in parking garages are to be built. The project is part of plans to convert its parking garages into so-called "Urban Hubs." These are to offer not only regular parking spaces but also e-charging stations as well as logistical and technology-based services. bp / Aral pulse will be integrated into APCOA's apps. This will allow registered users to book, monitor, and pay for their charging session on their smartphones.

The first locations in Germany

The first two stations in Berlin and Bremen are already undergoing technical testing and are expected to open in 2023. The locations will offer at least six parking spaces with fast-charging stations from Aral pulse. The stations are open around the clock. Some larger stations will also have a driver's lounge with seating areas and charging options for phones, hot and cold drinks, free Wi-Fi, and restrooms. The companies aim to contribute to the EU's goal of equipping 30 percent of public parking spaces with charging facilities for electric cars by 2035.

"This agreement will help us expand our charging network in Germany. By working together, we bring the future of parking, charging, and services for urban life to one place," says Alexander Junge, Aral's board member for e-mobility.

Philippe Op de Beeck, CEO of APCOA, sees the collaboration as another step towards realizing the plan to install 1,000 fast-charging stations through commercial partners. This provides an additional service and contributes to the transformation of individual mobility.
