Antric Evo_1: Bochum E-cargo bike with more payload in a more compact size

The new edition of the e-cargo bike is more compact, with a width of under 1 meter and a height of under 2 meters, and is accessible from both sides. Nevertheless, the same volume is achieved in the low-floor cargo area and more payload is offered. Additionally, there are improvements in operating costs, comfort, and weather protection.

The Bochum subsidiary of LEV specialist Cenntro, Antric GmbH, has unveiled its new cargo bike, the EVO_1, which has been completely redesigned from the ground up to offer the same volume and higher payload in more compact dimensions. Additionally, it is said to have improved ride and handling comfort. The concept of the fully integrated driver’s cab made of weatherproof and waterproof softshell remains unchanged. However, the new model comes with significantly more compact dimensions to meet the requirements of global markets and their regulations. It now measures 999 mm in width (181 mm less than its predecessor), 1,951 mm in height (69 mm less), and remains identical in length at 2,983 mm.

The four-wheel concept of the Antric, which already provided driving stability, high tipping safety, and good suspension comfort in its predecessor, remains intact. However, the turning circle is still relatively large at 6.9 meters compared to trike concepts. In the EVO_1, the dimensions at the front and rear are equally narrow, which is intended to give drivers confidence when maneuvering through tight spaces. The load-bearing components of the bike do not come from the bicycle industry but from the automotive sector and are specifically designed for the permissible total weight and requirements of the Antric, according to the manufacturer. The loading volume remains a generous 2.2 m³, and the payload increases to 291 kilograms (including 75 kg driver), with an unladen weight of 282 kilograms and a total weight of 670 kilograms. The internal dimensions of the structure remain almost unchanged, so a euro pallet or two standard roller cages (18/32 kilograms) can still be loaded over the low loading edge and extendable rails.

    Cobalt-free Batteries

The bike features two weatherproof and lockable slots for SuperPack LongLife interchangeable batteries, each with 1.44 kWh for a pedal-assisted range of 50 kilometers at up to 25 km/h in five levels. This corresponds to an energy consumption of 5.76 kWh/100 km. Of course, and in accordance with legal regulations, the walking aid up to 6 km/h is still available. Standard is a SuperPack LongLife interchangeable battery, which can be recharged on household electricity in 7.5 hours. The lithium iron phosphate batteries (LiFePO4) are cobalt-free and are characterized by a long lifespan; the provider promises at least 3,000 charging cycles. The e-cargo bike is now available for order and is expected to be delivered starting at the end of November. Despite internationally higher raw material prices, the price is expected to remain the same compared to the previous model and starts at 20,274 Euros net, with a container structure including one interchangeable battery and one charger.

    Technology in Detail:

    • The E-Cargobike features a fully suspended chassis with independent wheel suspension and specially made 16-inch high-performance wheels from the automotive industry, designed specifically for Antric. Combined with the comfortable, breathable seat instead of a saddle, the new, five-position adjustable crank, as well as ergonomically designed pedals and handle grips, comfort is intended to increase.
    • The new parking brake is located directly at the crank, optimized for efficiency. The brake is engaged by pressing down on the brake pedal and released in the same manner. The new driver information display includes information such as mileage, driving modes, speed, and battery charge level, as well as various warning lights. When driving in reverse, it serves as a rearview monitor, connected to a rear camera.
    • Weather protection and driving comfort: Like its predecessor, the bike has full weather protection made from waterproof softshell material. The entry and exit are standardly located on the side away from traffic. A dual-side access is available upon request and at no extra cost. The side windows are now drawn further inward to better protect the rider from moisture. The floor is equipped with a non-slip surface and is almost completely enclosed.
    • The E-Cargobike features a 5-level electric pedal assist up to 25 km/h and a purely electric maneuvering aid forwards and backwards up to 6 km/h. A rearview camera provides good visibility to the rear and also monitors the rear door when stationary. The bike is locked and unlocked using keyless entry. The side doors are also made accessible via RFID. The side doors are unlocked using two push buttons, with a green LED surround indicating whether the doors are unlocked. If the rider moves away from the vehicle, the doors lock automatically.
    • Profitability and sustainability: Parts of the vehicle should be easy to replace, with no continuously constructed components in accident-prone areas. This aims to reduce costs and save resources, as only individual parts of a component group need to be replaced, according to the manufacturer. To further reduce damage, there is an integrated front and side impact protection system that protects safety-relevant parts like axles, shock absorbers, electronics, chassis, body, and motor from damage.
