Almost half of young Germans from the so-called Generation Z consider companies with mobility offerings to be more attractive employers (48 percent). For 46 percent, corresponding offers even lead to greater job satisfaction. High on the mobility list is the company car. Two-thirds of 18- to 28-year-olds can imagine using an electrified vehicle as a company car. This was revealed by the representative study "Requirements of Generation Z for Corporate Mobility" by the market and opinion research institute Toluna on behalf of Alphabet Fuhrparkmanagement GmbH, a multi-brand provider within the BMW Group. The mobility service provider has been supporting the design of sustainable fleet concepts since 2013. A topic that currently concerns many companies, considering the competition for the best young professionals in the market. In the race to attract young talents from Generation Z, additional benefits can tip the scales for or against an employer. The range of benefits is vast and raises the question in many companies about the needs and demands that young applicants have today, according to the provider.

“A good compensation package also includes additional benefits that can increase employee satisfaction and bind them to the company. According to our experiences, corresponding mobility offers play an important role in this context,” says Uwe Hildinger, CEO and Chairman of the Management Board of Alphabet Fuhrparkmanagement GmbH.

According to the study, 46 percent of young Germans see a mobility offer from the employer as an expression of appreciation for the employees. The company car, in particular, is a popular incentive among Gen Z: 92 percent can imagine using a vehicle in the future or already do so. The use of a corporate bike leasing (60 percent) or an e-scooter (53 percent) is also interesting for the young professionals. Additionally, a subsidy for the use of public transportation is desired (81 percent).

“The results show that the desire for a company car is still very strong, even among Generation Z. Alternative mobility offers can also be a great incentive in urban areas,” says Alphabet CEO Uwe Hildinger.

Sustainably mobile: Young talents want to drive electric cars

The switch to sustainable mobility solutions is also highly relevant for Gen Z. 38 percent consider it important that their potential company car has low CO2 emissions. A good fifth (22 percent) of young Germans already use a company car. 37 percent of them drive fully electric vehicles. Two-thirds of all respondents state that they want a company car with an electric drive in the future (66 percent).

“For many companies, sustainable mobility is already an important part of their strategy. The drivers are diverse. In addition to regulatory requirements, customers, investors, as well as current and potential employees also have demands in this regard. We have been supporting our customers in the transition to e-mobility since 2013 and continuously expanding our offerings. The focus is on individual consulting to achieve the optimal balance between sustainability and profitability," says Uwe Hildinger.

Flexible use during leisure time desired

Young adults aged 18 to 28 also hope to save costs with mobility offerings provided by their employers. Nearly one third (32 percent) would forgo owning a personal car if a vehicle is provided by the employer. Of these, 54 percent state that they would like to use it during their leisure time. 48 percent see such an offering as a sign of appreciation from a potential employer. About the study From September to October 2023, 1,000 people in Germany aged 18 to 28 were surveyed online by the market and opinion research institute Toluna.
