Allego increases charging prices again on 07/10/2022

Due to the continuous rise in electricity prices across Europe, they are forced to change the charging tariffs more frequently. On October 7, 2022, the tariffs for the European charging network will increase once again.

Compared to the previous tariff adjustment in September this year, the standard tariffs for AC (alternating current) charging in Germany will rise from 47 to 60 cents per kilowatt-hour (kWh) of electricity. For DC (direct current) charging with up to 50 kW, Allego will charge 75 cents/kWh from October 7, currently 70 cents. For DC fast chargers with more than 50 kW power, the price will increase from 75 to 85 cents/kWh. These prices are standard tariffs including VAT and transaction costs when users pay by credit or debit card. Conditions at Allego stations when activated via a roaming provider may differ. Allego is also changing its prices in other countries.

Recently, another major provider, Shell Recharge, has announced a price increase effective September 28, 2022. Previously, other popular charging power providers had already increased their fees, including EWE Go, EnBW, and Fastned as well as Maingau Energie. According to the companies, the drivers of the price increases are the EU-wide rising electricity prices, partly due to Russia’s attack on Ukraine.

What does this mean?

That takes away the smile: At 85 cents per fast charger, e-mobility remains moderately attractive financially: If a car needs 20 kWh/100 km, which is rather conservatively calculated, fast charging costs 17 euros – that can also get you 8.5 liters of super gasoline! And even for AC charging, you can still get six liters of super, depending on the tank and time of day... A consumption with which some economical cars can easily cover 100 km. Therefore, driving electricity must become significantly cheaper; otherwise, switching to e-mobility makes little monetary sense for many.
