Alfa Romeo Milano: First electric vehicle celebrates world premiere in Milan

The 4.17-meter long SUV is expected to further boost Alfa Romeo's sales numbers and is the brand's first all-electric vehicle.

In Italian, everything always sounds somehow better: In the Alfa Romeo Milano Elettrica, a hybrid synchronous motor (HSM) is used, whose data is known, as well as that of the battery. It has a capacity of 54 kWh and with the 115 kW motor, it should reach up to 410 kilometers in the WLTP cycle, realistically more like 250 to 300. DC charging works with up to 100 kW, bringing the battery from ten to 80 percent in less than 30 minutes. Above that, however, is the Milano Elettrica 240 in the VELOCE version with 176 kW (240 hp).

Add to this mild-hybrid (also well-known) combustion engines: The Milano Ibrida carries the 1.2-liter group three-cylinder gasoline engine, which produces 100 kW (136 hp) with a variable turbo. The electric component consists of a 48-volt lithium-ion battery and an electric motor with 21 kW of power, which is integrated into the innovative six-speed dual-clutch transmission. The new Alfa Romeo Ibrida will later also be available with electrified all-wheel drive Alfa Romeo Q4.

Designed in the in-house Centro Stile

It was designed in the in-house Centro Stile. It measures 417 centimeters in length, a slim 178 centimeters wide, and 150 centimeters high. The front features full LED matrix headlights with the brand-typical “3+3” signature next to the traditional “Scudetto” grille. For the first time, this is available in two different variants “Leggenda” (Legend) and “Progresso” (Progress). In the “Leggenda” version, the historical Alfa Romeo lettering is recognizable, reminiscent of the Alfa Romeo sports cars of the 1920s and 1930s. “Progresso” is directly inspired by the new Alfa Romeo 33 Stradale and shows the cross and snake from the brand logo.

Inside, Stellantis technology has been styled to Alfa standards, featuring two 10.25-inch TFT screens. The central touchscreen features widgets – graphical elements similar to those of a smartphone – and allows for intuitive interaction through simple drag-and-drop. The display can be highly customized, something that was first heavily promoted by Peugeot.

Interesting: The front seats can optionally be ordered as sports seats, which come from racing specialist Sabelt. Charming detail: The air vents are adorned with four-leaf clovers – a homage to the Quadrifoglio, the good luck charm for all Alfisti and the brand's racing cars, in Italian.

The chassis is intended to impress with crispness and offers a sport chassis with a 25-millimeter lowering, reinforced stabilizers on the front and rear axles, a sports braking system with four-piston monobloc calipers as a Veloce. Additionally, 380 millimeter large brake discs on the front axle and a mechanical Torsen limited-slip differential are included.

For the Alfa Romeo Milano Ibrida with all-wheel drive, available at the end of the year, the D.N.A system will be expanded with the additional “Q4” mode, which is intended for roads with low traction.

There is a frunk for the charging cable

Convenient: The charging cable can be stored in the frunk and not in the 400-liter trunk. The electronic driver assistance systems enable Level 2 autonomous driving. The 360-degree parking sensors and rear camera make parking easier. The optional keyless entry system automatically locks or unlocks the doors as soon as the ignition key approaches or moves away from the vehicle.

Introduction of Alfa Romeo Milano Speciale

The equipment version Speciale, presented as a special model at market launch, is available for the new Alfa Romeo Milano Ibrida in the version with 100 kW (136 PS) as well as the Alfa Romeo Milano Elettrica in the variant with 115 kW (156 PS).
