Alfa Romeo 33 Stradale: Alfa's First Electric Car

The Alfa Romeo 33 Stradale is an homage to the namesake coupe from the 1960s and is offered either with an internal combustion engine or as a purely electric drive. Even beforehand, Alfa Romeo had established a new division named “Bottega.” It was intended to collect the ideas and wishes of potential buyers “to subsequently realize as many of them as possible in an exclusive automobile,” according to Alfa. Thus, the project could be quickly implemented by a small group of enthusiasts.

Quickly here means very quickly: The first meeting with potential customers is said to have taken place only at the Formula 1 race in Italy in September 2022. There, they could express their wishes for their personal Alfa Romeo 33 Stradale. These were then evaluated for feasibility by an internal committee led by Alfa Romeo CEO Jean-Philippe Imparato. Valtteri Bottas, a racing driver in the Alfa Romeo-sponsored Formula 1 team, was also closely involved in the coordination work around the chassis. To succeed within this time frame, extensive use was likely made of Maserati’s resources, where the MC 20 provided not the worst foundation for the 33.

552 kW for up to 333 km/h top speed

The electric version offers a system power of 552 kW, which is transmitted to all four wheels. Alfa Romeo specifies the range at around 450 kilometers, with a top speed of up to 333 km/h. Acceleration to 100 km/h is said to be possible in less than three seconds. Details about batteries and the charging system have not yet been disclosed by the Italians – but it can be assumed that the blueprint for the 33 Stradale will be found at Maserati.
