It was a bold idea: to sell electric cars through an electronics retail store that is not even one of the major well-known players. Initially, Aiways was very enthusiastic about the idea of marketing e-cars in an "alternative" way, and Euronics saw the Aiways as an "expansion of the program" upwards. ATU took over the service.

Euronics operates through independents who sold the cars on commission, which spared Aiways and Euronics showrooms and partner networks—but also visibility and perception. Some vehicles reached customers via a cooperation with Finn, which also organized the static presentation of the U6 pre-production model in Munich.

Since 2020, however, only a few hundred vehicles are said to have been sold in Germany, with a declining trend: in the first half of 2023, the Federal Motor Transport Authority registered 39 new Aiways registrations in Germany. Interestingly, Aiways distributes its models differently in other European countries, sometimes through online sales.

After the company also ran into difficulties in China, a new strategy is now planned. "Aiways has terminated the cooperation agreement with Euronics Germany for the distribution of Aiways vehicles," said Björn Abels, Head of Operational Procurement at Euronics, to the platform Automobilwoche. Due to various framework conditions, all parties have agreed not to continue the collaboration at present.

Euronics itself also wants to remain active in automobile sales in the future. Aiways itself has so far not commented on the topic. On the Aiways website, one currently reads:

“The stationary sales in Germany for Aiways are currently being renegotiated, so currently you can only order Aiways vehicles through our website. The delivery of the ordered vehicles will be carried out via the partners that will have been determined by then.”

What does that mean?

Aiways is losing its stationary "dealership" with Euronics and is trying to stay afloat with online orders. They currently offer the U5 in business leasing from 423 euros net per month and from 554 euros per month in private leasing, including all-weather tires and delivery costs. Both are currently not particularly favorable offers, which could further impede Aiways sales.
