ADFC awards Ministry of Transport as "Bicycle-Friendly Employer"

While there is still significant room for improvement in bicycle policy, at least Volker Wissing's (FDP) department is setting a good example as an employer: The Federal Ministry for Digital and Transport (BMDV) is the first federal ministry to receive the "Bicycle-Friendly Employer" certificate from the EU and ADFC at the highest "Gold" level. Ann-Kathrin Schneider, political federal executive director of the ADFC, and Christian Tänzler, deputy federal chairman of the ADFC, presented the certificate for the ministry's two locations in Berlin and Bonn to Federal Minister Wissing.

"The Federal Ministry of Transport serves as a role model employer. At the locations in Berlin and Bonn, with a total of 1600 employees, we have created good conditions for cycling. Together with the Deutschlandticket Job, we offer employees an attractive, climate-friendly, and healthy mobility option. A modern, innovative offer for employees is also increasingly important for attracting skilled workers," says the minister.

The initiative "Bicycle-Friendly Employer" aims to make commuting by bicycle easier for people by making employers more bicycle-friendly. For this purpose, the General German Bicycle Club ADFC awards the EU certificate, valid for three years, as part of the EU-wide Cycle-friendly employer (CFE) certification scheme. For the certification, the bicycle-friendliness of the employer is evaluated. Points are awarded, for example, for bicycle parking spaces, seasonal bicycle checks, the acquisition of company bicycles, or workplace health and mobility management. The BMDV provides employees with company and cargo bicycles, organizes cycling safety training, and participates annually in the nationwide "Bike to Work" campaign by AOK and ADFC.
