Add-Secure Study: Yes to E-Mobility - but Reservations Remain
A new survey by Add Secure, a provider of IoT connectivity solutions, shows that four out of five (83 percent) European transport companies are willing to convert their fleet to electric vehicles, alternative fuels, or both if the conditions are right.
Focus on Sustainability
The Europe-wide survey, which involved around 300 customers, shows that one in four transport companies (26 percent) consider sustainability to be the main factor for converting to a more climate-friendly fleet. More than one in five (23 percent) stated that customer requirements are the main reason for the change.
"These results highlight the need for greater investments in technology and infrastructure to support the transition to sustainable fleets in Europe, both in terms of the requirements of the transport companies and in their ability to meet the demands of their customers. Without such investments, transport companies will struggle to meet these challenges and satisfy the growing demand for environmentally friendly transport solutions," says Claes Ödman, President Smart Transport at Add Secure.
Range Anxiety and High Costs
More than two-thirds (70 percent) of European transport companies stated that concerns about the limited range of a vehicle (range anxiety) pose a major challenge. The lack of charging stations along routes is also cited as a problem by more than three-fifths (65 percent), while both the high weight of the batteries and the high costs of e-vehicles were mentioned as challenges by the majority (50 percent).
