ADAC Opel-e-Rally – digging through the dirt electrically

Preparations for the 2022 rally season are already in full swing for the third season of the ADAC Opel e-Rally Cup. The schedule of the first and so far only electric rally brand cup in the world will be further enhanced for the upcoming season.

Instead of seven events in the first two years, the 100 kW/136 PS Opel Corsa-e Rally will participate in eight high-caliber rally events in four countries in 2023. The basis of the ADAC Opel e-Rally Cup remains the German Rally Championship (DRM). The speedy electric vehicles will kick off the season in early May at the ADAC Rallye Sulingen and will continue, as usual, at the ADAC Saarland-Pfalz Rallye around St. Wendel as well as the ADAC Rallye Stemweder Berg in the Lübbecke area.

Germany, Austria, Switzerland, and France

After the debuts of the past season, the customer sport racers from Rüsselsheim are set to electrify the attractive rally events in Weiz (Austria) and in Morzine at the foot of Mont-Blanc (France) once again next year. The ADAC Opel e-Rally Cup will also celebrate two premieres, at the Rallye du Chablais around Aigle in western Switzerland and at the Rallye du Vosges Grand-Est near Gérardmer in the French Vosges.

The organizers have saved the last calendar highlight for the finale of the ADAC Opel e-Rally Cup. When the FIA World Rally Championship's top class makes a splash on the asphalt tracks in the tri-border region of Germany/Austria/Czech Republic during the new Central European Rally from October 27 to 29, the cup teams will also set up their tents in the service park in Passau with their battery-electric Corsa-e Rally and showcase the fascinating dynamics and innovative power of electric rally sports before a large international audience.

Interest in E-Rally Sport is Growing

"After a thoroughly successful rally year in 2022, we are already looking forward to an exciting third season of the ADAC Opel e-Rally Cup," says Opel Motorsport Director Jörg Schrott. "The awareness of the world's first electric rally one-make cup has grown significantly, and the interest from organizers both domestically and abroad in hosting a competitive run as well. We are very pleased about this because it proves that electric rally sport works."

What does that mean?

Admittedly, our editor is not a fan of any racing series. However, if the e-Rally should convince anyone of the necessity to switch to e-mobility...well, if it has to be a rally, then at least let it be electric.
