ADAC: No electric car under 16,900 euros - Dacia Spring and Leap T03 are the cheapest BEVs

No electric car under 16,900 euros: The ADAC examined the prices for micro and small cars. Even the cheapest petrol car costs 11,800 euros. Among the BEVs, the Dacia Spring leads, but the club considers it less recommendable due to poor crash values. The Leapmotor T03 remains the only one still under 20,000 euros.

Even in the supposedly cheapest vehicle segments – the mini and small cars – the selection of bargains is limited. This is shown by a current ADAC evaluation. Of the over 60 models offered, only three cost less than 15,000 euros, all with petrol engines. The cheapest available are Dacia Sandero (from 11,800 euros), Mitsubishi Space Star (from 13,590 euros), and Citroen C3 (from 14,990 euros). The cheapest electric car is the Dacia Spring for at least 16,900 euros, which is only conditionally recommended with a grade of 4.1 in the ADAC car test and only one star in the Euro NCAP rating.

"For many consumers, it is almost impossible to buy a new car – small cars in particular have become disproportionately expensive. The transition to an environmentally friendly electric car is further complicated by the lower supply and even higher prices," says ADAC Technology President Karsten Schulze.

Below the 20,000-euro mark, the Leapmotor T03 (from 18,900 euros) is the only other electric model. For mini and small cars with petrol engines – no manufacturer currently offers diesel engines in these classes – customers at least have a choice of 16 other vehicles, starting with the Fiat Panda (from 15,990 euros) up to the MG3, which costs at least 19,990 euros. Another 14 combustion engine vehicles cost under 25,000 euros, and only one more electric model (Citroen e-C3, from 23,300 euros) remains below this mark. For combustion engines, the Lexus LBX marks the top of the segment at at least 32,990 euros, while for electric cars, the Abarth 600e (from 44,990 euros) takes the end of the ranking.

Although some manufacturers have introduced more affordable electric vehicles for the coming year, the cheapest among them (Hyundai Inster) also does not start below 23,900 euros. The Renault 5 and Fiat Grande Panda cost 1,000 euros more, and the already announced models VW ID.2 and Renault R4 will be similarly priced. Lancia's Ypsilon Elettrica is supposed to cost a good 10,000 euros more, with the Ford Puma Gen E also starting only at 36,900 euros. An electric Nissan Micra and the Cupra Raval are also announced. The ADAC deems it incumbent upon manufacturers to offer inexpensive electric entry-level models to stimulate the growth of e-mobility. At the same time, politics and energy providers are also called upon not only to advance the expansion of charging infrastructure but also to ensure affordable charging electricity prices.
