A-N.T. Cargo:4 delivers for Hermes in Stuttgart
The Hamburg-based CEP logistics service provider Hermes has put another new cargo bike model into testing. By the end of the year, the company will be testing two E-cargobikes of the type Cargo:4 from the manufacturer A-N.T. in downtown Stuttgart. The pedelecs operate primarily on Königstraße and Schlossplatz and transport an average of 100 shipments daily. The starting point for the delivery tours is the "Stephangarage" underground parking garage. The CEP service uses APCOA's centrally located parking garage as a micro-depot. The experiences from the first test days have been promising. After the parcel logistics provider has already been delivering parcels by cargo bike in Berlin, Hamburg, Leipzig, and Ludwigsburg, a pilot test is now also following in the Swabian metropolis.
“Downtown Stuttgart is perfectly suited for a cargo bike test. Traffic jams and lack of space, along with time restrictions for delivery traffic and car-free zones, are common here. This makes parcel delivery not easy,” explains Marko Hudicsek, Manager Last Mile at Hermes Germany in the Stuttgart region.
The delivery personnel have already given positive feedback. Traffic jams in downtown Stuttgart are no longer a problem, and the challenging search for parking spaces is a thing of the past.
“The A-N.T. Cargo:4 relies on durable and low-wear scooter components and is designed for maximum loads in daily, professional transport use. Quality Made in Germany,” advertises Michael Halfpap, Senior Account Manager of the ZEG brand.
The model represents a robust and versatile Heavy Duty E-Cargo Bike that has been specially developed for professional transport needs on the Last Mile. With a payload of 250 kg and a loading surface that can hold a Euro pallet (1.20 m x 0.80 m), the model offers sufficient capacity for parcel transport. During the test operation, approximately 100 shipments can be delivered daily per cargo bike in downtown Stuttgart at a maximum speed of 25 km/h. Another advantage is the individual structures. For Hermes’ parcel transport, the interchangeable box is used; optionally, weather protection can also be added.
Indispensable: Combination with Micro-Depot
Parcel storage at central locations in the downtown area is an important prerequisite for delivery by cargo bike. With the "Stephangarage" underground parking garage in the APCOA parking facility, the starting point for delivery tours during the pilot test is maximally central in downtown Stuttgart. The conditions are ideal for seamless delivery of shipments and subsequent loading of the bikes, the logistics provider assesses.
“With the two available cargo bikes, we can completely cover our target area in downtown Stuttgart. We will thoroughly test the cargo bikes over the next few weeks and months. If the initial positive impressions are confirmed, the A-N.T. bikes will also play an important role in the coming peak season,” anticipates Marko Hudicsek.
