42nd KS Environmental Award: Driving the Transformation
With its now 42nd KS Energy and Environment Award for Innovations in the categories of Vehicle Technology and Mobility Systems, the automobile club KS e.V. aims to once again set a signal for transformation this year.
“The mobility industry is doing everything it can to vigorously advance the path to climate neutrality. Industry players understand that the targeted climate goals can only be achieved with new ideas and commitment, and that Germany’s competitiveness on the international stage can only be maintained through innovations. With our renowned award, we want to send a signal again this year,” explains Ole Eilers, President of the automobile club KS e.V.
The 42nd KS Energy and Environment Award under the patronage of the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action aims to motivate the industry to come up with new ideas for more climate protection and energy savings in 2024. The award is endowed with 10,000 euros each in the form of donation funds. Applicants in the field of vehicle technology primarily come from the passenger car, motorcycle, or commercial vehicle sectors and the supplier industry. In the category of mobility systems, applicants typically include transportation providers, mobility service providers, cities and municipalities, institutions, associations, or organizations. However, proposals can be submitted by anyone - be they private individuals, companies, media representatives, associations, or organizations. The only requirement is that the proposals have already proven themselves in practice or are on the verge of rolling out.
Germany can do innovation
The fact is, from KS's point of view: The automotive industry invests in research and development like no other sector. The results are impressive, in the opinion of those responsible: From the world’s first internationally certified system for autonomous driving to intelligent digital mapping systems to the electric truck for long haul, the range of innovations is vast. The industry is thus making good progress and thereby contributing its share to globally climate-neutral growth. In addition to sustainable motorized individual transportation, new mobility concepts that strengthen multimodal mobility are also needed.
“The mobility transformation and the shift in mobility industries require new concepts and innovations. We know: Germany can do innovation. With the KS Energy and Environment Award, such innovations are honored, and we contribute to making the numerous innovations in the fields of vehicle technology and mobility systems even more visible,” says Dr. Martina Gikadi, jury member of the KS Energy and Environment Award.
Urgent Need for Action
For many players in the automotive industry, the year 2024 will be challenging – a year of transition, it is said. So far, however, the German automotive industry is reporting excellent figures in terms of sales and profits. But the transformation to e-mobility is already taking its toll, for example in light of the Chinese e-offensive or the still inadequate charging infrastructure. Above all, there is a lack of courage to take bold steps forward. Many largely remain in the present, the responsible parties note. Accordingly, the situation remains volatile.
Translated automatically from German.“With the KS Energy and Environment Award, we want to thank dedicated people, companies, and organizations for their special commitment to solving current challenges in the areas of vehicle technology and mobility. Furthermore, we want our award to motivate other actors not to relent in their efforts to bring forth innovations and climate-protecting, people-benefiting forms of mobility. Only in this way can we sustainably strengthen our economic location and protect our Earth,” summarizes Dr. Martina Gikadi, jury member of the KS Energy and Environment Award, which has been awarded for more than 40 years by the third-largest German automobile club, KS e.V.
